Do you know how to make a travel insurance claim?
You’re probably here because you’ve just realised – I don’t actually know how to make a claim because I’ve never had to!
Well, don’t worry. We’re here to get you up to speed because good luck runs out sometimes, and you’re gonna have to rely on your travel insurance coverage to take care of you.
Let’s say you’re abroad and something unfortunate happens, i.e: hiking accident or theft. You put yourself first, and get to the local hospital or police station immediately. Make an effort to call your travel insurance company while you’re on the go, brief them on what happened, and let them guide you through the process.
Documentation and proof
Your travel insurance company is gonna need relevant documents and proof to compensate you financially. The best way to get your case approved fast is by providing as much as possible, which should include where applicable:
- Your passport or Malaysian IC
- Your travel itinerary
- Your flight ticket and boarding pass
- Your baggage items
- Your medical report
- Your police report
- Your invoices, receipts, and bills
- Your communication with the relevant authorities
Okay, so you’ve got everything ready. What next?
How to actually file a claim
Now, proceed to download the claim form from the website of your travel insurance company and fill it in completely and accurately. Make a list of what you lost, attach it to the form, and submit for review.
If the information you provide is inconsistent, the process will be prolonged because the company will have to get in touch with you for verification. Triple check all your materials from the get-go cause ain’t nobody got time for that!
Be mindful that claims are only accepted if submitted within 30 days from the incident!
